Respect Yourself – Stax Records

Not sure if you caught “Respect Yourself” on ThinkTV 16 last night, but WOW!  I have always loved to listen to Otis Redding, but never really learned about Stax Records – the label that signed him and produced his music.  Completely amazing.  Fans of the Blues Brothers will recognize many of the musicians in this documentary, as a number were in the Blues Brothers Good Old Boys Band, an amazing group that played both country and western…but I digress.  The show was great, and proof that not all TV is junk food for the brain.  The quality of music that was put out by the Stax artists was quite simply as good as it gets.  I never realized that Booker T and the MG’s backed Otis Redding or that Isaac Hayes wrote hits for Sam and Dave.  He also won an Oscar for “Shaft.”  If you happen to come across this show one night, stop flipping, kick back and get your soul music funk on.  Thanks to ThinkTV.
